My name is Divna and I am Serbian but born and raised in London. I love Lord of the Rings, Poker and Documentaries but, most importantly, I have recently graduated.

Post Uni Life

Yes to graduate, we are told, is a milestone in one’s life – but what about after?  Well I can’t help but feel that if I hadn’t have been lucky enough to land an internship at Istros Books, the only jobs I would have had would be to do the dishes, hang out the washing and have coffee and cigarettes with my mum. Perhaps we are not looking hard enough and perhaps the help is out there for us. But like I said, I am extremely lucky to be interning for Istros Books and especially because they are currently publishing Slavoj Žižek.

Istros Books

How did I even get the opportunity to help out with publishing the controversial Slovenian philosopher?  The first thing I always say about myself, apart from my name, is that I am Serbian. Since Istros Books is an independent publishing house that publishes Eastern European books – being Serbian certainly helped – (I knew it would come in handy one day). So sent in a CV and here I am.

Slavoj Žižek & Srećko Horvat

‘Welcome to the Desert of the Real was one of the first books I read by Žižek and it completely changed my perception of the world.  Like many others I wanted more. More controversial ideas, more crazy metaphors, and more humor (even when the topic is not meant to be funny). And now I am sitting at a desk learning about the world of publishing whilst promoting and blogging about his new book with co-author Srećko Horvat, the up and coming and charismatic Croatian philosopher: ‘What Does Europe Want? The Union and its Discontents’
